Walt Disney Imagineering ImagiNations Design Competition
Concept Artist, Experience Designer
The prompt of the 2012 Walt Disney Imagineering ImagiNations competition was to imagine the year 3000, when humanity had moved to the moon, and we were designing the first-ever entertainment space there! The competition is a way for students and recent graduates to showcase their talents and for Disney to identify new talent.
My team, formed from the CMU Entertainment Technology Center, decided to create a version of ‘Toon Town,’ called ‘Moon Town,’ where Mickey and his friends lived alongside new characters in harmony – developing power sources and immersing themselves in the wonders of nature, both earth and alien. To do this, we developed a set of ‘weenies’ that would draw visitors into various parts of the park – the alien spaceship that now serves as a power plant, the terrarium that displays the natural world, both of the earth and alien, and the central convention space, MoonTown Hall.
As artist on the project, I not only helped with conceptualizing the story and environment for the world we designed. My background in architecture and visual media helped us design the look and feel of our concept. I also worked on concept art to display our ideas to the jury. We finished in the semifinals for the competition this year.
